On January 15-16, 2016, His Holiness Patriarch Mor Ignatius Aphrem II called upon the leaders of the Two Branches of Sutoro in Qamishly to meet in order to discuss recent developments and events concerning our people in Qamishly and the security measures that aim at protecting them.
The meetings were attended by His Grace Mor Georges Kourieh, Dean of Mor Aphrem Theological Seminary in Maarat Saydnaya and Very Rev. Raban Joseph Bali, Patriarchal Secretary and Media Office Director, as well as the priests of our churches in Qamishly.
He asked the leaders of Sutoro to give him an overview of what happened during the attacks on Qamishly which led to the death of innocent people.
His Holiness also met with leaders from the Syriac Union Party in Qamishly and listened to their account of the events.
Then His Holiness held a common meeting for leaders from the two branches of Sutoro. He reminded them all that their primary concern and goal is to protect civilians from terrorist attacks. He invited them to cooperate together in finding ways to better protect Christians in Qamishly.
