Between January 30 and February 6, 2016, His Eminence Mor Theophilus George Saliba, Archbishop of Mount Lebanon and Tripoli, participated in the Meeting of the Official Commission of the Theological Dialogue between the Catholic Church and the Oriental Orthodox Churches which was held in Cairo, Egypt.
His Eminence represented the Syriac Orthodox Church of Antioch in the dialogue.
The meetings were opened with a visit to His Holiness Pope Tawadros II. All participants underlined the importance of the dialogue between sister churches. They emphasized the urgency to be united, especially in these days of persecution.
Each family of Churches met separately the following day. Then the representatives of churches met together and discussed the different issues. The main theme discussed was the salvation of non-believers and non-baptized.
At the end of the meetings on February 5, a final report was issued which summarizes the meetings and the discussions that took place.
