Visit to the Syriac Catholic Church of the Lady of Salvation in Baghdad

His Holiness Patriarch Mor Ignatius Aphrem II visited the Syriac Catholic Church of the Lady of Salvation in Baghdad, where a terrorist attack took place in 2010 and dozens of martyrs fell victim of that attack. His Excellency Mgr. George, the representative of the Apostolic Nuncio to Iraq was also present.
His Holiness was received by the clergy of the diocese at the church where the episcopal vicar welcomed His Holiness on behalf of the Syriac Catholic Archbishop Mar Aphrem Yousef Abba.
His Holiness was then introduced to the history of the horrible attack that destroyed the church and killed many faithful as well as two priests.
After praying the service of the Martyrs, His Holiness and the accompanying delegation visited the museum especially established to commemorate the martyrs of that attack. His Holiness also prayed the service of the departed at the tombs of the martyrs.
The visit of the Church of the Lady of Salvation was followed by a dinner at the Hindiya Association.
His Holiness was accompanied by His Eminence Mor Severius Hawa, Archbishop of Baghdad and Basra, His Eminence Mor Timotheos Matta Al-Khoury, Patriarchal Secretary, His Grace Mor Maurice Amsih, Director of Public Relations and Patriarchal Delegate in Al-Jazeerah and Euphrates, and Very Rev. Raban Joseph Bali, Patriarchal Secretary and Media Office Director.
