Commemoration of Mor Barsaumo – Damascus

On February 3, 2019, His Holiness Patriarch Mor Ignatius Aphrem II celebrated the Holy Qurobo of the fourth Sunday after Epiphany, and the Commemoration of Mor Barsaumo, the Chief of the Mourners, at St. Georges Patriarchal Cathedral in Bab Touma – Damascus.

He was assisted by their Eminences: Mor Dionysius Jean Kawak, Patriarchal Vicar for the Archdiocese of the Eastern United States of America, and Mor Maurice Amsih, Archbishop of Al-Jazeerah and Euphrates.

During the Qurobo, His Eminence Mor Dionysius Jean Kawak gave a sermon in which he commented on the reading from the Holy Gospel about Jesus being rejected at Nazareth. He pointed out that a Disciple should be brave and courageous despite all rejection and challanges he might face while preaching the Good News. His Eminence also asked the faithful to accept the Lord as a Master of their lives unlike the people of Nazareth.

Before communion, His Holiness presided over the Teshmeshto (Service) of the Saints for the Commemoration of Mor Barsaumo, the Chief of the Mourners.
