“Our Last Stand: Saving Christianity in Iraq”

His Holiness Patriarch Mor Ignatius Aphrem II spoke at the Panel entitled: “Our Last Stand: Saving Christianity in Iraq” at the conference on the Future of Christians in Iraq.

The panel was moderated by MEP Gyorgy Holvenyi. His Beatitude Syriac Catholic Patriarch Mor Ignatius Youssef III Younan, Very Rev. Archimandrite Emanuel Youkhanna and Very Rev. Msgr. Boniface also contributed to the panel.

His Holiness spoke about the need of the international community to fight terrorism which is a global threat to all people and to human civilization. He emphasized the need to help Christians remain in their homeland after stopping the genocide that they are facing.

He reminded the international community of the case of the abducted Archbishops of Aleppo and hoped for their return.

He suggested that there should be international guarantees and commitment to rebuilding and repatriation without any specific international protection forces. 

His Holiness also stated that the Christians want to live in peace side by side with all their neighbors.
