His Holiness Patriarch Mor Ignatius Aphrem II officially inaugurates the third Suryoyo Youth Global Gathering (SYGG) held this year in Lebanon.
Very Rev. Raban Jack Yakoub, Director of the Youth Department, thanked His Holiness for taking care of the Suryoyo youth as their spiritual father and beloved friend. He greeted all the youth groups coming from 18 different countries wishing them a successful SYGG 2017.
In his opening speech, His Holiness addressed the youth, saying: “I like to call you my friends for you really are so”. He added: “Your presence today from 18 different countries is evidence that our church is a church of the youth; the youth are not the future of the church, they are the church”. He continued: “We will continue to promote our Eastern culture in the church of the diaspora; we will continue to encourage our youth to be proud of who they are.”
After his speech, His Holiness wrote a blessing note on the SYGG 2017 golden book. Then, he launched the facebook page of “Radio Kifo”, the new youth radio established by the Youth Department.
Their Eminences: Mor Theophilus George Saliba, Archbishop of Mount Lebanon and Tripoli, Mor Dioscoros Kuriakose, Metropolitan of the Simhasana Churches in North Kerala and Abbot of Malecuris Dayro, Mor Athanasius Geevarghese, Metropolitan of the Simhasana Churches in South Kerala and Abbot of Mor Ignatius Dayro, Mor Justinus Boulos Safar, Patriarchal Vicar in Zahleh and Beqaa, Mor Philoxenus Mattias Nayis, Patriarchal Vicar of Germany, Mor Clemis Daniel Kourieh, Metropolitan of Beirut, Mor Polycarpus Augin Aydin, Patriarchal Vicar in Holland, Mor Chrysostomos Mikhael Shemoun, Patriarchal Vicar of the Benevolent Patriarchal Institutions, Mor Nicodemus Daoud Sharaf, Archbishop of Mosul, Kirkuk and Kurdistan, and Mor Timotheos Matthew, Patriarchal Secretary for Indian Affairs attended the opening ceremony.
SYGG 2017 will be attended by more than 315 youth coming from 18 different countries all over the world. The gathering is taking place in Lady of the Mountain Monastery, Fatqa – Lebanon.
