His Holiness Patriarch Mor Ignatius Aphrem II visited St. Tikhon Orthodox University in Moscow during his official visit to the Russian Orthodox Church and Russia.
He was welcomed by the Rector of the University Fr. Vladimir Vorobiov at St. Nicholas Church where His Holiness and the accompanying delegation were given a short tour of the premises of the University and Fr. Vorobiov explained to them the history of the University since its establishment in 1991.
His Holiness then met with the Rector and the Head of the Oriental Studies Department. They gave him an overview of the different departments and specialties offered at the University.
His Holiness then delivered a lecture to the students of the University on the history of our Syrian Orthodox Church of Antioch and the relations that exist between our Church and Russia. He then answered the questions of the audience and blessed them, wishing them success and progress.
His Holiness was accompanied by their Eminences Mor Severius Hawa, Archbishop of Baghdad and Basra, Mor Philoxenus Yusuf Cetin, Patriarchal Vicar in Istanbul and Ankara, Mor Dionysius Jean Kawak, Patriarchal Assistant, Mor Nicodemus Daoud Sharaf, Archbishop of Mosul, Kurdistan and Environs, Very Rev. Raban Joseph Bali, Patriarchal Secretary and Media Office Director, and Very Rev. Raban Roger-Youssef Akhrass, Director of Syriac Studies as well as Rev. Fr. Stephan and Mr. Sergey Alferov from the Department of External Church Relations at the Russian Orthodox Patriarchate.
