His Holiness Patriarch Mor Ignatius Aphrem II visited Sheikh Akl of the Unitarian Druze Naim Hassan at their headquarters in Beirut. His Holiness was accompanied by His Eminence Mor Clemis Kourieh, Metropolitan of Beirut and the members of the Archdiocesan Council. The official delegation included His Grace Mor Maurice Amsih, Director of Public Relations and Protocol, Very Rev. Raban Joseph Bali, Patriarchal Secretary and Media Office Director, and Very Rev. Raban Cyril Babi.
His Holiness and Sheikh Naim Hassan discussed the recent developments in the region. They also talked about “strengthening the common relations between the Syriac Orthodox Church and the Unitarian Druze to contribute towards ending conflicts based on religion in the Middle East region”.
Concerning the current situation in Lebanon, His Holiness stated that “our meetings today are an invitation to the politicians in Lebanon to meet together for the good of all citizens and to put the needs of the Lebanese citizens in their top priority.
Sheikh Hassan welcomed His Holiness and emphasized the importance of having all religious groups working together in these difficult times. It is important also to seek to decrease the tension and bringing different opinions closer together. He stressed the importance to respect human life and dignity.
