On the occasion of Christmas, His Holiness Patriarch Mor Ignatius Aphrem II hosted the annual Christmas Retreat for the Clergy in Damascus.
His Beatitude Greek Catholic Patriarch Gregorius III Lahham also participated in the retreat.
The Christian hierarchs, priests, monks and nuns participated in the retreat which was held at St. Georges Patriarchal Cathedral in Bab Touma.
The theme of this Christmas’ spiritual retreat was: “Nativity through Mary’s Eyes”. The prayers and meditations included Hymns from Mor Aphrem and St. Jacob of Serug.
From the Syriac Orthodox Church, their Eminences Mor Justinus Boulos Safar, Patriarchal Vicar in Zahleh and Beqaa, Mor Philoxenus Mattias Nayis, Patriarchal Vicar in Germany, Mor Polycarpus Augin Aydin, Patriarchal Vicar in the Netherlands, Mor Chrysostomos Miikhael Shemoun, Patriarchal Vicar in the Patriarchal Benevolent Institutions in Atchaneh, Mor Timotheos Matta Al-Khoury, Patriarchal Secretary, Mor Timotheos Matthew, Patriarchal Secretary for Indian Affairs, and their Graces Mor Iwannis Boulos AL-Souqi, Patriarchal Vicar in the Patriarchal Diocese of Damascus and Mor Georges Kourieh, Dean of Mor Aphrem Theological Seminary in Maarat Saydnaya participated in this spiritual retreat.
The clergy also prayed together for peace in Syria.
