His Holiness Patriarch Mor Ignatius Aphrem II and His Beatitude Mor Ignatius Youssef III Younan, Syriac Catholic Patriarch of Antioch, visited Lebanese MP General Michel Aoun, at his residence in Rabieh.
They were accompanied by His Eminence Mor Justinos Boulos Safar, Syriac Orthodox Patriarchal Vicar in Zahleh and Beqaa, His Excellency Mor Baselius Gergess Kass Moussa, Patriarchal Assistant and Apostolic Visitor of the Syriac Catholic, Very Rev. Raban Joseph Bali, Patriarchal Secretary and Media Office Director, and Rev. Fr. Habib Mrad, Syriac Catholic Patriarchal Secretary.
His Holiness told that this visit comes to support in prayer the election of a new President in Lebanon.
His Holiness and His Beatitude demanded to have two seats in parliament for the Syriac Catholic and Syriac Orthodox for representatives of the Syriac community which is still classified as ‘minority’.
General Aoun expressed his support for this demand and the importance of having a Christian political unity. He also discussed the dangers of immigration of Christians from the countries of the Middle East.
