In October 2015, His Holiness Patriarch Mor Ignatius Aphrem II inaugurated the new Beth Suryoye, the Syriac Theological Seminary in Salzburg (STSS).
A university chair for Syriac and Christian studies has been established at the University of Salzburg. There are already six students enrolled for this academic year with Raban Zeytoun Sawmeh to look after their spiritual needs.
This is the first Seminary established in Europe in connection with university studies. All Syriac Orthodox clergy, teachers and church members have thus the opportunity of pursuing theological education according to our Syriac tradition. The Board members offer the opportunity to become a Founder Member of the Seminary; this is, however, only available for a limited period of time.
