Official Reception at the Syrian Embassy in Brazilia

On the occasion of the first apostolic visit to Brazil, the Syrian Ambassador to Brazil, His Excellency Mr. Ghassan Nseir held an official reception at the Syrian Embassy in Brazilia on the honor of His Holiness Patriarch Mor Ignatius Aphrem II.
The reception was attended by high officials in the Brazilian government, as well as members of the diplomatic body in Brazilia. The President of the Syrian Community in Brazil, Mr. Bassam Massouh, and members of the Syrian and Lebanese Communities were also present in this event.
Her Excellency Mrs. Ligia Maria Serer, Director of the Middle East Affairs Department in the Brazilian Foreign Ministry was also present.
His Holiness was accompanied by their Eminences Mor Titus Boulos Touza, Syriac Orthodox Apostolic Nuncio in Brazil, Mor Selwanos Boutros Al-Nehmeh, Archbishop of Homs, Hama and Environs, Mor Chrysostomos Youhanna Ghassaly, Patriarchal Vicar in Argentina, Bishop Mor Faustino Jose Filio, and Very Rev. Raban Joseph Bali, Patriarchal Secretary and Media Office Director, as well as the clergy of the churches in Brazilia and Goaia.
His Excellency Ambassador Nseir welcomed His Holiness and expressed his joy at the occasion. He spoke about the role of His Holiness in advocating the cause of the Syrian people who are suffering because of the crisis in Syria. He told His Holiness that he is the spiritual ambassador of all Syrians and asked him to pray for peace in Syria.
In turn, His Holiness thanked His Excellency and expressed his joy to be at this reception. He reminded the ambassadors and members of the diplomatic body that it is important to convey the correct picture of what is happening in Syria and to allow Syrians to decide the future of the country. He spoke about the historical role of Syria in bringing civilization to the entire world and how sad it is to see the destruction and violence inflicted on the land of civilization Syria because of the terroristic groups that are attacking its citizens and destroying its culture and history.
The reception was followed by a formal dinner on the honor of His Holiness hosted by the Syrian Community Association in Brazil.
