Suspension of a priest

On October 16, 2016, His Holiness Patriarch Mor Ignatius Aphrem II suspended Rev. Gabriel Daoud from priesthood.

Based on the report of the Branch of Fighting Informational Crime of the Directorate of the Criminal Security in Damascus, which points to his indirect involvement to some social media pages which were created to raise doubts among the faithful and to destroy the reputation of the Holy Church, its clergy and faithful,

In addition to his constant being late to prayer which results in not having enough time to prepare the altar and the deacons, etc…, as well as knowingly making statements to the media without permission, despite oral warnings to stop all deeds not befitting priesthood, and to spend his time in your priestly ministry, his salvation and that of his parishioners.

In addition to the above, until the complete results of the investigation of his involvement in the social media pages, and based on Article 110 of the Constitution of the Holy Syriac Orthodox Church, and in the capacity as Patriarch of Antioch and All the East, and Supreme Head of the Universal Syriac Orthodox Church, and through his apostolic authority, His Holiness declared:

  • the suspension of Rev. Gabriel Daoud from priesthood and banning him from the practice of any pastoral or liturgical rites in all countries throughout the world, with the penalty of defrocking him from the sacred priesthood, until the extent of his involvement in the abuse of the reputation of the Church, its clergy and faithful, is made known and until his true repentance and remorse.
  • take away from him the Holy Cross, which he shall not wear anymore.
