Red Wednesday – Lighting of Westminster Cathedral

1On the eve of the launching of the report on Religious Freedom at the House of Lords in the British Parliament, His Holiness Patriarch Mor Ignatius Aphrem II participated in a special event of lighting the facades of Westminster Abbey and Westminster Cathedral in London.
His Grace Richard Chartres, Bishop of London, also participated in the event as well as religious representatives from different denominations and politicians.
The event was organized by Aid to the Church in Need. The red lighting symbolizes the blood shed in religious persecutions. The event raised awareness on the religious persecutions throughout the world and express solidarity with those who are suffering from it especially Christians in the Middle East.
His Holiness spoke about the importance of respecting religious freedom. He emphasized that the message of all religions is love, not hatred. He asked all to defend religious freedom and make all efforts to stop religious persecution of Christians in the Middle East.
During the event, the choir of Westminster Cathedral chanted hymns on peace and love.
Following the event, His Holiness was hosted by His Grace Bishop Chartres of London at the House of Lords in the British Parliament.
