Christmas Event for Children of Syrian Orphanages


His Holiness Patriarch Mor Ignatius Aphrem II received Her Excellency Dr. Rima Al-Qadiri, Syrian Minister of Social Affairs, at the Patriarchate in Bab Touma.
His Eminence Mor Timotheos Matta Al-Khoury, Patriarchal Vicar of the Patriarchal Archdiocese of Damascus, His Grace Bishop Mor Maurice Amsih, Patriarchal Delegate of the Archdiocese of Al-Jazeerah and Euphrates, Very Rev. Raban Joseph Bali, Patriarchal Secretary and Media Office Director, and Very Rev. Raban Jack Yacoub, Director of the Youth Department were also present in the meeting.
Her Excellency spoke about the different areas of cooperation between the Ministry of Social Affairs and the Syriac Orthodox Patriarchate, especially through St. Ephrem Patriarchal Development Committee (EPDC).
His Holiness also gave an overview of the numerous developmental projects that the Patriarchate is executing. He emphasized that these projects aim at creating job opportunities to the Syrian people, helping them survive during the crisis and remain in their country. He stressed that the Patriarchate and EPDC are working also on training the youth to learn skills which would enable them develop their careers and find better jobs.
After the meeting, His Holiness and Her Excellency attended a special Christmas event intended for the children of 4 orphanages, including the “Little Angel House”. In this event, His Holiness spoke about Christmas’ message of peace and prayed for peace in Syria.
