Meeting a Joint Committee for Foreign Affairs, Trade and Defense of the Irish Parliament

His Holiness Patriarch Mor Ignatius Aphrem II, His Beatitude Greek Melkite Patriarch Gregorius III Lahham and His Excellency Grand Mufti of Syria Sheikh Ahmad Badr El Din Hassoun, met with the Joint Committee for Foreign Affairs, Trade and Defense in the Irish Parliament in Dublin.
His Holiness spoke about the current situation in Syria and clarified the fact that the sanctions imposed on Syria are affecting the Syrian people who is suffering from shortage of the necessary means of life, especially medicine and the basic needs like food and the like.
He spoke about the religious fanaticism that is introduced to Syria through the financial support of the terrorist groups. He pointed out that religious fanaticism is strange to the Syrian society and the Syrian people of all denominations lived together in peace for centuries.
He urged the international community to promote a peaceful resolution to the crisis in Syria and their help in the case of the two abducted Archbishops of Aleppo Boulos Yaziji and Mor Gregorius Youhanna Ibrahim. He also emphasized that the Western Media is biased and does not tell the reality and truth of what is happening in Syria; rather, they tell one side of the story.
His Beatitude and His Excellency spoke about the suffering of the Syrian people and the negative role of the western media in transmitting the truth.
