Meeting of SYGG-Syria with President Dr. Bashar Assad

His Holiness Patriarch Mor Ignatius Aphrem II meets His Excellency Dr. Bashar Assad, President of the Syrian Arab Republic, with the participants of the Suryoyo Youth General Gathering – Syria, at the Damascus Hall in Damascus.
The accompanying delegation included their Eminences: Mor Selwanos Boutros Al-Nehmeh, Archbishop of Homs, Hama and Environs, Mor Timotheos Matta Al-Khoury, Patriarchal Vicar at the Patriarchal Archdiocese of Damascus, and Mor Maurice Amsih, Archbishop of Al-Jazeerah and Euphrates, along with the monks, priests, and deacons who helped organizing SYGG-Syria 2017.
During the meeting, His Excellency answered the questions asked by the youth about the role of the youth in rebuilding Syria. He appreciated the importance of such gatherings in strengthening dialogue with the others, as the only way to develop and build the country, in contrast with religious and social fanaticism. They also discussed the importance of the existence of Christians in Syria, especially the Syriacs who are a true component of the Syrian society. They spoke about the roots of the Syriac civilization in Syria and resisting emigration while fighting the existence of terrorists.
