Visit to the Governor of Santiago Del Estero – Argentina

On June 21, 2019, His Holiness Patriarch Mor Ignatius Aphrem II met with His Excellency Dr. Gerado Zamora, Governor of Santiago del Estero.
His Holiness spoke about his fraternal relation with His Holiness Pope Francis, who shoes great care towards Christians in the Middle East, especially through his continuous prayer for peace in Syria, and his desire to visit Iraq soon. His Holiness thanked His Excellency and the Province of Santiago del Estero for helping the Syriac community there. He also spoke about the general situation in Syria, and the persecution of Christians in the Middle East, as well as their forced emigration. His Holiness considered that Christians have shown their active role in any society they become part of.
His Holiness was accompanied by their Eminences: Mor Chrysostomos Youhanna Ghassaly, Patriarchal Vicar in Argentina, Mor Chrysostomos Mikhael Shemoun, Patriarchal Vicar and Director of the Patriarchal Benevolent Institutions in Atchaneh, and Very Rev. Raban Joseph Bali, Patriarchal Secretary and Media Office Director.
The meeting was also attended by their Excellencies Mr. José Emilio Neder, Vice governor of Santiago del Estero, and Dr. Marcelo Barbur, Minister of Security and Worship in the local government.
