Visit of a Russian Delegation

On September 22, 2019, His Holiness Patriarch Mor Ignatius Aphrem II received a delegation from the Interreligious Working Group for the Aid of the Population of Syria at the Patriarchate Headquarters in Bab Touma – Damascus.
 
The delegation was headed by Rev. Fr. Stefan Igumnov from the Russian Orthodox Church. It is part of the Council for Cooperation with Religious Associations, which works under the auspices of His Excellency Mr. Vladimir Putin, President of the Russian Federation, represented by Mr. Sergey Melnikov.
 
During the meeting, the members of the delegation spoke about the main role of Russia in fighting terrorism in Syria, and supporting the Syrian people during the years of crisis. They pointed out to the importance of opening the school that the working group contributed to its restoration as well as the round table that will take place to discuss the major points of improving the humanitarian help delivered to the Syrian people.
 
In turn, His Holiness welcomed the delegation and conveyed his fraternal greetings to His Holiness Patriarch Kirill. He emphasized that this visit is a sign of the continuation of the Russian support to the Syrian people. He highlighted that the Russian support helped Syria fight terrorism. He expressed his gratitude to the Russian people and hoped that more Russian tourists will visit Syria to get to know its rich history and visit its famous religious and historical sites.
 
The meeting was attended by His Eminence Mor Anthimos Jack Yakoub, Patriarchal Vicar for Youth Affairs and Religious Education, Very Rev. Raban Joseph Bali, Patriarchal Secretary and Media Office Director, and Rev. Monk Boutros Dakermajian.
