On November 16, 2019, His Holiness Patriarch Mor Ignatius Aphrem II consecrated St John the Baptist Basilica in Comalapa – Guatemala. After the rite of the consecration, His Holiness celebrated the Holy Qurbono.
In his sermon, he greeted the faithful who were gathered in large numbers inside and outside the Basilica exceeding 15000, and thanked them for the very big welcome they prepared for him during his visit to Comalapa. He spoke about the challenges that this community endured but were able to overcome. He emphasized that every Christian should submit to the will of God and treat all fellow humans as brothers and sisters, with care and love. He stressed that the Lord commands us to love our enemies and that we should not have enemies, rather we should be loving to all in order to be true disciples of Christ.
His Holiness concluded by offering thanksgiving and adoration to the heavenly Father for the faith of this community and their love and attachment to the Holy Church of Antioch.
