On April 16, 2020, His Holiness Patriarch Mor Ignatius Aphrem II celebrated the Holy Qurobo on Maundy Thursday at St. Georges Patriarchal Cathedral in Bab Touma – Damascus.
Their Eminences Mor Timotheos Matta Al-Khoury, Patriarchal Vicar in the Patriarchal Archdiocese of Damascus, and Mor Anthimos Jack Yakoub, Patriarchal Vicar for Youth Affairs and Religious Education, attended the Holy Qurobo.
In his sermon, His Holiness spoke about the meaning of Passover, and how the church celebrates today the feast in which the Lord Jesus Christ fulfilled all the prophecies of the Old Testament. He pointed out that this Maundy Thursday is also called the Thursday of the Sacraments because we remember in it how the Lord established the sacraments of the church through the Holy Qurbono, which is the sacrament of sacraments and through it all the sacraments are fulfilled.
