On September 1st, 2020, His Holiness Patriarch Mor Ignatius Aphrem II received His Excellency Ambassador Dr. Anwar Abdelhady Director of the Political Office of the Palestinian Liberation Organization in Damascus, at Mor Aphrem Monastery in Maarat Saydnaya.

Their Eminences Archbishops Mor Timotheos Matta Al-Khoury, Patriarchal Vicar for the Patriarchal Archdiocese of Damascus, and Mor Yacoub Babawi, Patriarchal Vicar for Monks Affairs and the Administration of Mor Aphrem Theological Seminary in Maarat Saydnaya were also present in the meeting.

His Excellency conveyed to His Holiness the greetings of the Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, and delivered to him a letter from the higher presidential committee of churches affairs in Palestine. His Holiness discussed with His Excellency the current situation in Syria and the region.
