Feast of the Pentecost

On June 20, 2021, His Holiness Patriarch Mor Ignatius Aphrem II celebrated the Holy Qurobo on the occasion of the Feast of the Pentecost, at St. Severius Patriarchal Church in Atchaneh – Lebanon.

His Holiness was assisted by their Eminences Archbishops Mor Chrysostomos Mikhael Chamoun, Patriarchal Vicar and Director of the Patriarchal Benevolent Institutions in Atchaneh, and Mor Barthelmaus Nathanael Youssef, Patriarchal Vicar in the United Arab Emirates and the Arabian Gulf.

Their Eminences Mor Gregorios Saliba Chamoun, Patriarchal Counselor, and Mor Dioscoros Benjamin Atas, Patriarchal Vicar in Sweden attended the Qurobo.

In his sermon, His Holiness spoke about power and courage which the Holy Spirit gave to the disciples when He dwelled on them in the upper room. The disciples then went out and spread the gospel to the entire world. His Holiness added that the Feast of the Pentecost is the Church’s baptism. In baptism, we believe that the Holy Spirit dwells on the water and makes them spiritual water and a new mother that gives birth to sons and daughters for the Kingdom of God. His Holiness also spoke about the gifts of the Holy Spirit. He assured that the Holy Spirit continues to grant the Church with the gifts that suit her ministry. He also highlighted the importance of discerning, growing, and trading the gifts that we have so that we do not quench the Spirit nor grieve Him.

At the end of his sermon, His Holiness welcomed their Eminences and asked the faithful to pray for the success of the Holy Synod which will be held this week by the guidance of the Holy Spirit.

During the Holy Qurobo, His Holiness celebrated the special three services of the Pentecost and the clergy sprinkled water on the faithful as a symbol of the dwelling of the Holy Spirit on the disciples in the Pentecost in Jerusalem.
