Visit of Cardinal Christoph Schonborn to Um el Zennar Cathedral in Homs

On October 3, 2021, His Eminence Cardinal Christoph Schonborn, Archbishop of Vienna, visited Umm el Zunnar Cathedral in Homs.His Eminence Mor Timotheos Matta Al-Khoury, Archbishop of Homs, Hama, Tartous and Environs, received His Eminence and the accompanying delegation at the gates of the Cathedral. His Eminence Cardinal Schonborn was offered a tour of the Cathedral and gave a thanksgiving prayer thanking the Lord for the great blessing he received from the Zunoro (belt) of the Virgin Mary. His Eminence Mor Timotheos Matta Al-Khoury presented His Eminence Cardinal Schonborn with a special gift, a chalice which was restored from the terrorists who attacked the churches in Homs during the crisis. He welcomed His Eminence and appreciated his visit which is important to convey a message of peace to all. Their Excellencies Archbishops: George Abu Zakhm, Greek Orthodox Archbishop of Homs, John Abdo Arbash, Greek Catholic Melkite Archbishop of Homs, Hama, and Yabroud, Very Rev. Fr. George Khoury, Syriac Catholic Patriarchal Delegate to Homs, Hama, Nabak and Environs, Priest of the Latin Church in Homs Rev. Fr. Majed, and Priest of the Maronite Church in Homs Rev. Fr. Manhal Boulos, as well as the priests of the Cathedral, were also present during this visit.His Eminence Cardinal Schonborn was accompanied by His Eminence Mor Anthimos Jack Yakoub, Patriarchal Vicar for Youth Affairs and Christian Education, as well as Dr. Hubert Philipp Weber, Manuel Baghdi, Dr. Alfons Kloss, President of Pro Oriente, Prof. Dr. Dietmar Winkler, and Dr. Georg Pulling. His Excellency Mr. Peter Krois, Charge d’Affaires of the Austria Embassy in Syria, was also present during this visit.
