Holy Qurobo on Maundy Thursday

On April 21, 2022, His Holiness Patriarch Mor Ignatius Aphrem II celebrated the Holy Qurobo on Maundy Thursday at St. Georges Patriarchal Cathedral in Bab Touma – Damascus.Their Eminences Archbishops: Mor Cyril Babi, Patriarchal Vicar for the Patriarchal Archdiocese of Damascus, and Mor Joseph Bali, Patriarchal Secretary and Media Office Director, were also present in the Holy Qurobo.In his sermon, His Holiness spoke about the origins of Easter which was celebrated to commemorate the passover of the Jewish people from slavery in Egypt to freedom. He spoke about the strikes with which the Lord hit Pharaoh and his people when He chose Moses and Aaron to lead His people out of Egypt. His Holiness explained how rhe hebrew people used to prepare for the passover and eat the lamb with bitter herbs to remember the days of slavery and suffering in Egypt, and how this represents the suffering and death of our Lord Jesus Christ on the cross. He also mentioned the establishment of the new testament and the sacrament of the Eucharist which the church celebrates at each divine liturgy and the faithful are united together as members of the body of Christ.
