Palms Sunday

On April 17, 2022, His Holiness Patriarch Mor Ignatius Aphrem II celebrated the Holy Qurobo on the occasion of Palms Sunday, at St. Georges Patriarchal Cathedral in Bab Touma, Damascus.During the Holy Qurobo, His Holiness was assisted by their Eminences Archbishops: Mor Cyril Babi, Patriarchal Vicar for the Patriarchal Archdiocese of Damascus, and Mor Joseph Bali, Patriarchal Secretary and Media Office Director. In his sermon, His Holiness spoke about the children who received our Lord Jesus Christ with joy when He entered Jerusalem. His Holiness pointed out that the Lord Jesus taught His disciples humility and that man is precious in God’s eyes and He saves even if it means that He should give His self for the sake of His beloved. His Holiness continued that the entrance of Christ to Jerusalem fulfilled the prophecies about the king of Israel entering on a donkey and about the cheers of the children who were driven by the spirit to welcome Christ. He added that the people were looking for an earthly king who will defeat armies and other kings while Christ was preaching about love and mercy and leading people to repentance and salvation. The scribes tried to silence the children when they felt threatened by the teaching of Christ which was against their expectations and aspirations because of their hard minds and hearts. He encouraged the faithful to follow the path of love as our Lord taught us and walk on the way of truth and make deeds worthy of repentance and mercy. He concluded by reminding the faithful that Palms Sunday is an occasion to rejoice in the Lord and confess Him as our God and King Who reigns over our lives. During the special service of Palms Sunday, His Holiness and the clergy walked in a procession followed by the children holding candles and branches of olives.
