On August 14, 2022, His Holiness Patriarch Mor Ignatius Aphrem II presided over the evening prayer at the Lady of the Girdle (Zunoro) Cathedral – Homs.
Their Eminences Archbishops: Mor Timotheos Matta Al-Khoury, Archbishop of Homs, Hama, Tartous and Environs, Mor Theophilus Georges Saliba, Archbishop of Mount Lebanon and Tripoli, Mor Maurice Amsih, Archbishop of Jazeera and Euphrates, Mor Anthimos Jack Yakoub, Patriarchal Vicar for Youth Affairs and Christian Education, Mor Yacoub Babawi, Patriarchal Vicar for Monks Affairs and the Administration of Mor Aphrem Theological Seminary in Maarat Saydnaya, and Mor Joseph Bali, Patriarchal Secretary and Media Office Director, were also present at the evening prayer.
His Eminence Mor Timotheos Matta Al-Khoury welcomed His Holiness, their Eminences, and the distinguished guests, then commemorative shields were distributed.
In turn, His Holiness thanked His Eminence Mor Timotheos Matta Al-Khoury and spoke about the history of the girdle and how it was discovered, protected and preserved until it reached the present day.
At the end of the prayer, His Holiness held the girdle of the Virgin Mary in a procession inside the Cathedral to bless the believers, then His Holiness headed to the new shrine and prayed the service of blessing and dedicated the new shrine. At the end of the service, His Holiness placed the girdle in the special shrine for the faithful to receive its blessings.
