On March 21, 2024, His Holiness Patriarch Mor Ignatius Aphrem II received His Excellency Rev. Prof. Jerry Pillay, General Secretary of the World Council of Churches, at the Residence in Atchaneh – Lebanon.
His Excellency was accompanied by Dr. Michel Abs, General Secretary of the Middle East Council of Churches and a delegation from the two councils.
Their Eminences Archbishops Mor Severius Roger Akhrass, Patriarchal Vicar for the Syriac Studies, and Mor Augeen Al Khoury Nemat, Patriarchal Secretary, were also present.
His Holiness spoke about the challenges facing the Christians worldwide, especially in the Middle East. He highlighted the necessity to support the Christians in their homeland during the critical times that they are facing and pointed out that cooperation is necessary in order to help the churches and their members.
The delegation’s visit to Lebanon comes within the framework of learning about the real situation of the churches and offering solidarity and support.
