Meeting of the Heads of the Christian Churches in Damascus

On December 18, 2024, His Holiness Patriarch Mor Ignatius Aphrem II met their Beatitudes Greek Orthodox Patriarch of Antioch and All the East John X, and Greek Catholic Melkite Patriarch of Antioch and All the East Joseph Absi, and their Excellencies the Archbishops of Damascus as well as heads of monastic orders in Damascus, at the Greek Orthodox Patriarchate in Damascus.

During the meeting, His Holiness expressed the urgent need to unite all efforts and work together in the service of the people. He emphasized the solidarity of the international community with the people of Syria. The Patriarchs and Archbishops discussed the current situation in Syria and emphasized on the importance of coordination in the upcoming period in order to preserve Syria as the land of civilization, history and divine revelation.

His Excellency Mr. Geir Pedersen, Special UN Envoy to Syria, joined the meeting. He stated that the challenges of the current period are great and that Syria is a country for all Syrians. He encouraged all to be united and work together for the future of Syria.

His Holiness was accompanied by their Eminences Archbishops: Mor Joseph Bali, Patriarchal Assistant, Mor Andrawos Bahhi, Patriarchal Vicar for Youth Affairs and Christian Education, and Mor Augeen Al-Khoury Nemat, Patriarchal Secretary.
