On January 7, 2025, His Holiness Patriarch Mor Ignatius Aphrem II met Congressman John James, Member of the Foreign Affairs Committee, and c, Deputy Assistant Administrator of USAID, Mr. Dustin Stewart, and Mr. Jack Baber, Hostages Affairs at the Department State, in Washington D.C.
His Eminence Archbishop Mor Dionysius John Kawak, Patriarchal Vicar for the Archdiocese of the Eastern USA, accompanied His Holiness during these meetings.
During these meetings, His Holiness spoke about the current situation in Syria and emphasized that the people of Syria are looking for a bright future for Syria where all citizens, from different religions or ethnicities, can enjoy peace, security, democracy, justice and equal rights. His Holiness also spoke about the two kidnapped Archbishops Mor Gregorius Youhanna Ibrahim and Boulos Yaziji, hoping to unveil the truth about their case.
