On October 23, 2025, His Holiness Patriarch Mor Ignatius Aphrem II received His Grace Bishop Frank Kopania, Vice President of the Church Office of the Evangelical Church in Germany (EKD), accompanied by a delegation, at the Patriarchal Residence in Atchaneh.
Their Eminences: Mor Clemis Daniel Kourieh, Archbishop of Beirut, Mor Chrysostomos Mikhael Shemoun, Archbishop of Mount Lebanon and Tripoli, and Mor Joseph Bali, Patriarchal Assistant, were also present.
His Holiness and His Grace discussed the current situation in the Middle East, and the support of the Evangelical Church in Germany to the Christians in Syria and Lebanon. They also spoke about the role of the church to give hope and to take care for the sorrows of those in need. This helps in getting a new perspective to the people. They emphasized that the church has always helped the people during the times of crises offering support in areas of health and education as well as the welfare of the community. His Grace expressed the solidarity of the church in Germany with the suffering Christians in the Middle East.
The delegation then visited the Patriarchal Residence as well as the museum and attended the midday prayer at Mor Severius Church in the Patriarchal Residence, followed by a common prayer for peace and security in the world.
